The firefighter flashlight allows you to choose between 3 brightness levels just in case you don't need it's full power or need a longer run time for the batteries.

Let's face it once we are on scene in a dimly lit environment for a short while, our eyes adjust and we can use very little light to see our surroundings. When you do need it's full power, you are able to use the full 210 lumens to illuminate about 635 meters in front of you. Just to give you a comparison, the popular Streamlight Fire Vulcan (LED version) only has 145 lumens. That's a 30% increase in brightness.

Perhaps one of the coolest feature of the 5580 is the dual light mode commonly seen on most Nightstick products. The Streamlight Fire Vulcan only has a single 145 lumen light that shines directly in front of you. The Nightstick 5580 light has 2 lights. The standard 210 lumen LED light and a flood light underneath the light so you can see objects on the ground as you walk or work. Both lights can be activated at the same time or independently so that you can illuminate the areas at a distance and in your direct working area.
